A strange post on MSN… about Macs?!
Tonight as I logged out from checking my hotmail messages, hotmail redirected me – as it does – to the MSN.com page. I normally close IE7 before it gets the chance to show me the MSN logo but tonight I let it do its stuff and I soon clicked on the “tech & gadgets” page and spotted something: ”Hackers play attack a Mac”. I thought it was a little strange to see this on MSN (Microsoft), so I kept on reading. OK, Apple have had their fair shot at “PC” with their adverts but at least they made it funny, like banter between friends. As far as I am aware they have never really crossed the line to plain rudeness. This post on MSN seemed almost as though it was an invitation for hackers to take down Microsoft’s growing competitor. This is part of the post:
“As far as security goes, Apple has had it easy. How Steve Jobs has laughed at Windows’ ongoing security woes – not least during those annoying ‘Get a Mac’ ads… …there’s never been a more appealing time for a hacker to attack a Mac… …Apple’s market share is now significant enough for malware gangs to think they can make some money out of it…”If you understand Unix security, then you can relatively easily ‘port’ your knowledge and understanding to the iPhone. With the portability of understanding and the known Safari flaws mentioned, coupled with the excellent hardware design, focus greatly intensified on the iPhone. Including the fact that the iPhone is a ‘locked’ device and you have a perfect combination of factors leading to iPhone exploit research. Not only does this vulnerability make it significantly easier for a phisher to dupe an Apple iPhone user, but it also has the potential to wreak financial havoc on mobile service providers faced with a sudden influx of fraud claims.”I am not a Mac fan boy. I do own an iPod and love it because it does what I want, is easy to navigate and most importantly because it works well with iTune and syncs with the many available podcasts I get from there.I thought this was a little “under the belt” kind of post…
